Yogurt Production WWTS Upgrades

Delivery type

Progressive Design-Build

Location

Idaho

Value

≈$75M

After multiple issues with other design engineering firms and contractors, the Client selected Haskell as the design-builder to upgrade their existing water resource recovery facility. The main project goals were to increase wastewater treatment capacity, replace an underperforming anaerobic digester, and treat the effluent from the MBR process to potable water standards such that, in addition to using as cooling tower makeup water, it could be used within the facility for indirect applications such as cleaning upon approval from the state's department of environmental protection. The project was delivered using progressive design build principles and provided the following upgrades or additions across four subprojects:

  • New Calamity Tank and diversion system to mitigate shock-load events
  • New 4,000sf building to house jet mix systems for the new Calamity and existing EQ Tank, process feed pumps, and chemical feed systems.
  • Conversion of existing dissolved air flotation (DAF) to suspended air flotation (SAF) units to improve solids removal system performance.
  • Two (2) new aeration basins which increased aeration basin capacity by 350%. The problematic anaerobic reactor was decommissioned.
  • New 27,000sf building to house secondary solids removal (SAF) and dewatering (screw press) systems and serve as the operations control center complete with a lab, bathrooms, break room, operator offices, and conference room.
  • New 12,000sf building to house water purification equipment including RO units, UV/AOP, carbon filtration, disinfection equipment, and associated chemicals.
  • Three (3) new 125,000-gallon reuse water storage tanks.

The Haskell team was engaged in February 2021, began mobilization in July 2021, and completed the project in September 2023. Haskell utilized multiple engineering consulting firms and in-house design engineering staff to execute the design of this project. Haskell's integrated and progressive design-build approach allowed for direct and constant coordination between the design, construction, and commissioning teams to result in an efficient and successful fast-track project. Jacob served as the lead design project manager, coordinating all engineering and design disciplines to deliver design documents for permitting and construction while managing the design budget and schedule.

Bottling Facility WWTS

Delivery type

Design-Build

Location

New Jersey

Value

≈$3M

A client's facility needed a wastewater treatment system to achieve compliance with its process wastewater discharge permit. The client had purchased wastewater treatment equipment for a similar application at a different facility and chose Haskell to integrate this equipment into the treatment system design. Haskell was tasked with reviewing the previously purchased equipment, selecting and procuring ancillary equipment to support the treatment system, including an equalization tank, pump station, and flow metering devices, and constructing the system. Jacob was responsible for coordinating with equipment manufacturers to select equipment and managing the production of drawings and specifications.

Beef Patty and Sauce Production WWTS

Delivery type

Design-Build

Location

California

Value

≈$4M

Haskell was selected to design-build a new burger patty and sauce manufacturing facility in California. As part of the project, the facility needed a wastewater treatment system to remove debris and FOG and adjust pH within an acceptable range prior to discharge into the sanitary sewer. I served as the design project manager and developed the process-mechanical design for the treatment system.
